Can anyone explain why Rees-Mogg was trying to get the MPs back into one room rather than continue with the remote working and voting that seemed to be going ok?

Was it to lead by example and get back to normality to show the rest of the UK it was fine? Or was it a way of getting more noise into the chamber to distract from Johnsons bullshit with more partizan cheering when he squeezed out another three word slogan?

Whatever the intention it has backfired big time with Alok Sharma having to self isolate with symptoms and therefore the whole of parliament as well following the new track and trace guidelines.

Well done to the member representing the 18th Century

It was all about creating a story that deflects attention from him. You watch, every time there is a controversial story about them, something like this comes up. Steve Baker was on criticizing it - he does that on purpose and is part of their plan. I feel sorry for the people who think that voting for them will "level things up". Worryingly, when they discover that that won't happen, those voters will move even further to the right.
I think it is lead by example and rightly so .how can they say schools go back when they are in their back gardens fiddling their expences .....I'm not cynical or anything.
Because of the shambolic way in which this govt has handled the crises we should still be on full lockdown, however because we need to save the economy we have to take much bigger risks than everyone else in the EU. But they should be managed risks which would involve everyone who can working from home. MPs can do there job just as effectively (in ineffectively in the case of many of them) from home.

Why do they need to all sit together and spread the virus?

I thought the advice still was to work from home where you can.

I think the reason you give is why they have been dragged back to London, it's just not a good enough reason.

Becuase every twat in the country is on Facebook saying I'm not going back to work / school / personal hygiene etc until the MPs are back in Parliament.
Getting them back was not needed but understandable.

What I don't understand in this day and age why they still use such an archaic way of voting.

Surely can be done electronically?

Jacob Rees Mogg had quickly gone from a curiosity to an absolute prick since he's been part of the government.

A huge problem caused by not having effective measures in place to monitor the virus so people don't know if it's safe to go back. It doesn't matter if Rees-Mogg and the undead can debate face to face or from the comfort of their country estate.

And where it's safe tell them they have to go back - govt fucked up the only god thing they did (Furlough) by not restricting it to sector specific industry when we got through the 1st phase.

It hasn't helped that they fucked up the lockdown at both ends (started it too late, and released it too early) which means that we can't get back to normal. The biggest shower of shit running the country at the time when the shit really hit the fan. If we hadn't obsessed with Brexit over the last 4 years we might have been better placed to deal with this.
