I realise one of the main justifications for being pro-Allardyce is increased opportunity it gives us to attract a new owner, but do we really want someone to buy in when we’re in the PL?

We will cost c.£150m... what is in it for a new owner when they’ve paid that amount of cash? If they’re buying in for the PL glamour they’ll have enough money to buy a bigger, more successful club... like we saw with Lai, they’ll most likely be buying us to either make money, or further their own business aspirations.

The likes of Dr Tony and Fosun overlooked is because they felt there was better value to be had in the lower leagues... it’s far more financially viable to buy a club for £30m and spend £120m turning them into the project you want and win over the fans in the process than spend £150m on the prepared article knowing it’ll cost another £100m before the fans stop demanding investment...

I know this assumes Lai will sell if we go down, which he’s probably unlikely to do due to the huge personal loss he’d make, but I really can’t see why anyone would buy us at top value when there are similar clubs available for a fraction of the cost.
It really is catch-22. But being cheap leaves you open to the charlatans and chancers. Wolves got lucky that Fosun saw a bargain. It could easily have been a windbag like Chansiri or Morris or that bloke at Sunderland. At least with our owner wanting the majoriy of his outlay back it rules out these chancers. Downside is it rules out a lot of others too.

Which is exactly where Peace found himself when he sold to Lai.

In fairness Chansiri and Morris have both invested millions, they’ve just also made awful decisions. Jos Lubukay cost Sheff Wed a small fortune, and Morris has pumped over £100m of his own cash in.

They've been crap owners though overall havent they? Both teams have spent loads of money with no apparent plan and are worse off than when they started, and neither club own their grounds anymore.

Didn't Roland turn Fosun, Xia and before that Carsen Yeung down?

Two out of three ain't bad  Wink
That is certainly correct of Fosun - before they were interested in wolves they went as far as organising due diligence was all set up only for JP to change the price and Fosun pulled out only to take over the cheaper option down the road
One thing is certain, any extended spell in the Championship with this owner or any owner who won’t support the club financially would create of strong prospect of a return to places we haven’t been to since the 90’s, both in the financial sense and also possibly geographically .... and that might include going to places like Rochdale, Hull & Charlton to play

Fans who’ve loved the Championship do so because we’re mainly better than other teams. And that’s because we can afford better players & following relegation have bigger budget than most of our competitors.

Once that advantage is gone and we’re competing with the aforesaid Hull, Charlton & Rochdale for players I don’t think many would be suggesting they wouldn’t want to be in the Premier League

Truth is unless you want to risk going the same way as the likes of Ipswich we have to as a minimum keep up our yo yo relationship with the premier league.
I fear new owners, I really do. As with the names listed upthread, plenty arrive with good intentions and spends loads of money and have nothing to show for it. Then things go toxic, really toxic. Look at Blackburn and Hull. There are fans who have been boycotting them for years.

Lai came in, said straight away that the club would be self-sustaining and he's stuck to his word. He brought in Williams and Goodman on the advice of JP and when they were clearly carp, he sacked them and got Jenkins back. Lai also sacked off the clearly useless Hammond and brought in the less useless Dowling.

I don't want someone who will come in and promise the earth. Just steady growth and sensible decisions and talking to fans regularly would do. I have no envy for either of our neighbours, neither of them does business in a manner I care for.

And I never want to sign a player who won't accept a flex down clause in his contract, that way madness lies. Stoke, Sunderland and Swansea all had Championship players on £100K a week and it's absolutely toxic for a dressing room. Not us and I reckon that's a major contributor to our good performences in the Championship.
