As most know Pulis wanted Smalling in the Summer of 2017 to partner Jonny Evans.

Phil Jones was being looked at as an option to play in midfield or defence.

We would have been a better team had we recruited Smalling & Jones instead of Greg K and Burke IMO

I’m sorry but I rate Smalling as one of the best out and out defenders we’ve produced in English football. His issue was he had two left feet and wasn’t good enough on the ball to progress further.

See how he played under Van Gaal. Superb.
