Noticed on Saturday you went with Jones's orthodox diamond, 4-1-2-1-2 and stopped messing about with 1 up top.

Was this a last roll of the die that's paid off, or has that system been taking regular beatings too?
Silly diamonds, eh Derek?
I'll get back to you later chaps. Out for a few drinks at the mo, so can't get into too much of a conversation. Forgive me if I make less sense than usual when I'm back on.

On a Wednesday afternoon? Animal.
Be careful, youth.

OK, here goes.

First off, the honest answer is feck knows. Nothing really makes sense at our club any more, and Saturday's events made less sense than anything that's happened since Jones took over in January.

I mean everybody was predicting armageddon before the match and we go a goal down in the first minute. Clearly, this match is only going one way, right?

So we set up initially without the diamond, but with 2 up front, but more than anything else in Jones' apparent swansong, we set up half a mile further up the pitch than anything we'd previously seen from Jones (picture Pulis when his negative tactics have left him one match from the sack and he chooses to try and win a match for once).

So on seven minutes Jones tells Joe Allen he wants to implement the diamond. Joe does what he's told and from what I can make out, we then pretty much controlled the game, or were at least the better of the two teams.

As welcome as Saturday's result was, and at the final whistle me and Junior were hugging and celebrating like we'd won a cup final, I still think Jones is one defeat from the sack.

I honestly don't know what to think now. I like the guy, but the results are shite. Whatever I say can and will be used in evidence against me, so I'd rather not say what I think should happen now. As long as it doesn't involve TTITC, I'm happy to trust the club's owners' judgement.

I saw it a number of times. The fact that when he needed a win for his own ends he invariably got it just added to my loathing of his negative, safety first tactics. Like I've always said, the poor results were borderline deliberate.

Anyway....Jones pulled a rabbit out of the bag last weekend, could that be the turning point? At least your owners seem patient.
