Have apparently been raving about Periera all weekend according to a mate who was listening.

Realise the deal is apparently agreed in principle, and understand the piece about investing in other areas, but we need to be getting him snapped up sharpish. Only takes a few words in the agent’s ear for all our good work getting him here to be undone.
It’s a binding deal SW4. No need to worry. If we sign him in January that will have implications on our budget for January.

I actually think we could even be more potent with a trio of Krov, Pereira and Diangana in behind Phillips

What’s the hurry?  It’s a contractual option with Lisbon for us to buy him
which the player consented to as well. Nobody can gazump us.  That’s how options work.  Why use up this season’s budget, which could prevent us signing another striker in January, when we can pay to exercise the option at the end of the season?

I get all this Prag, but until someone is holding the scarf and actively registered as our player there’s always a way out.

If bigger, wealthier clubs than us start to sniff we can’t hold a gun to his head and force him to sign. He can always go on strike, kick up a fuss, his agent can find loopholes and whatever. I’m sure if Lisbon thought they could get another £5-10m for him, or he could get an extra 20k/wk that obligation could become very tricky to execute.

My understanding is that the permenant deal is only binding should promotion be achieved. Is this not right?

If not then I'd say get him signed up pronto. From what I've seen and comparing him to others he's a £25m player all day long.

Great bit of negotiating business by Dowling and co.

I understand the argument not to waste this season's budget on him if the deal is water tight but contracts and agreements in football have a habit of being a bit flaky. The way his seasons going he could easily get his head turned by a "big" club and at the least it could disrupt him with his agent getting a lob on and seeing cash signs.
I'd he plays x amount of games or we get promoted.

There is no way out, however a team can buy him straight from us if they want to.

Ah right. Cheers Birdy.

Let's just hope he doesn't get injured......
Didn't he threaten to go on strike/refuse to play for Sporting if he didn't get his move to us, which resulted in them not assigning him a squad number?

There are ways players can not reach a contractual number of games if they're angling for a bigger move elsewhere.

And lets face it, Sporting Lisbon and then Portuguese and Brazilian football isn't renowned for being open and transparent!
