SJ 6 - shades of last season hesitation was causing defence to be jittery

Furlong 6.5 - didn’t get forward as much as usual
Hegazi 6 - not played for ages and mistakes nearly cost us
Bartley 7.5 - Solid
Townsend 6 - sloppy in possession

Philips 6.5 - in and out of the game
AJ 7 - struggled in middle, excellent at centre half
Krov 5 - gave away the pen & slowed the play down too much
Mattues 8 - put a shift in, won the penalty (MOM)
Grady 7 - kept going despite having the shit kicked out him

HRK 7 - bright first half, faded badly second half

Subs;

Austin 6 - would have been a 4 without the pen, very poor
Garry Barry 7 - assured despite being rusty
Brunt 7.5 - oozes class, we will see more of him over the busy festive period
Wouldn't disagree too much with that.

I would rate SJ a little higher. Dropped one cross, but otherwise ok. We didn't look like conceding from open play.
Today was probably the worst we’ve played, but we got away with it thanks to having a bit more quality than a very cynical but effective Wednesday side.

Despite the lineup looking strong we looked at 6s and 7s from the start, and it was no shock the back 3 was abandoned within about 5 mutes of kick off.

Ajayi and Krov were completely unable to get to grips with Bannan, and with neither of them dropping deep to give our CBS the Sawyers outlet we couldn’t get any meaningful moves going.

With Weds doing a job on Periera and Grady - was interesting watching them share the fouls out to avoid bookings - we just couldn’t get going, and an inconsistent ref who blew very hot and cold on fouls seemed to be losing control.

Thought Slav was very brave to take Hegazi off, but was completely the right call, and was shocked it didn’t happen at HT. we were screaming for Barry’s composure and his play after we got the winner showed how important he is as Sawyers’s deputy.

Johnstone - 8. -thought he did well today and coped with the lack of an outlet. The save from Fletcher’s offside was magnificent.

Townsend - 5 - awful going forward and at the back. Looked a league one player after a couplepromising games Surprised Gibbs didn’t come on
Hegazi - 5. Got his head on stuff but looked very rusty
Bartley - 8 - excellent again!
Furlong - 6.5 - steady.

Ajayi - 6 - poor in midfield, the game just passed him by, Rotherham clearly needed him as more of a shield than a ball player
Krov - 5 - lots of energy, but didn’t replicate either Sawyers or Livermore and was utterly stupid to concede the penalty

Grady - 7.5 - was our best outlet first half but it wouldn’t fall for him, seemed to want one touch too many
Periera - 8 - dealt with their rough treatment well and reacted very quickly for the penalty.
Phillips - 7 - lots of running but another one it wouldnt fall for

HRK - 7 - excellent finish for the goal, but struggled against an old school centre back pairing.

Barry - 7 - showed his class, got us over the line
Brunt - 6 - no time
Austin - 7 - balls of steel to take the penalty, unlucky with the header.

Slav - 7 - right subs again, but felt they came a bit late... handled the game well
Agree about Townsend ,think we need a lot more pace going forward out wide ,thought Phillips was anonymous except for about 15 minutes second half
Penny black baggie why so hard on Austin, scored 1 hit the post with a great header not bad in 15 minutes. As for Johnstone except for one miss handle he dominated his area . Ajayi is not a midfielder when he went back along side Bartley he was terrific . Bartley outstanding for me the stand out player. Grady played well in patches and Periera took a lot of stick but great through ball for Kanu’s goal, and his persistence won us the Penalty. Overall not as good as some displays but 3 points .

Agree. Austin could have had 2 goals in 15 minutes with a little luck. Don't know what more you could expect. Johnstone was really good, he made a number of nice saves. Sheff Wed could have had 2 or 3 goals if not for him. Kanu was good too. If we get 2 strikers going we will be tough to beat. I thought Krov was a little weak, had unforced errors and of course that penalty gaffe. I thought Hegazi was shakey too
