Gewin to Australia for Christmas for the first time. Did real ale make it there or am I supping craft beer the whole time?

Any recommended boozers in Sydney, staying near the CBD. Any other pro tips appreciated as well... aside from avoiding forest fires.

I travel/work there quite a bit-2 trips in the last 3 months. Central Sydney is seriously upmarket these days-a huge number of traditional Aussie boozers have consequently gone down the arty-farty food and drink route. Only personal opinion, but my favourite traditional pubs around the Rocks/Harbour Bridge are the Orient (George St-really old style with decent pub grub) and the Glenmore (Cumberland St, though its rooftop bar attracts a different set at peak times). Other than that take your pick from the still considerable but declining number of traditional pubs (often called Hotels) throughout the city. In terms of general advice-I don't think you can go wrong mate-it's one of the great cities of the world. Get an Opal card (most newsagents)-you'll need it to get on all trains and buses. Use it to get on the Manly ferry-as good as the vastly more expensive harbour trips. The Bondi to Coogee walk (5k/2 hrs) is a belter for first time visitors. If you've got time, head north to the Hunter Valley (Newcastle way) and west to the Blue Mountains for stunning scenery. And if you fancy a curry, the Spice Room on Philip St is highly recommended, but book in advance as it's always rammed. And never, ever, drink Victoria Bitter. It's up against some stiff competition but surely must be the rankest Aussie beer in history. Even worse than XXXX. Hope you find this useful, and have a great time anyway !!
Cheers mon. Good knowledge, yeah getting out to blue Mountains providing it hasn't burned down beforehand! Love a curry so will check out The Spice Room. Thanks again!
