Only fool`s fans pencil in October 3rd at 8 pm on Gold  a never been seen 20 min episode  Licensed to drill which is the last time that Grandad Lennard Pearce was seen. For me this was the greatest comedy series ever produced and.
I loved the early ones with Granddad. Think they cashed in too much though and the quality waned as the years went by. It was seriously dubious by the time Cassandra and a yuppified Rodney became focal points.
As an aside, my best man ended up buying John Sullivan's BMW four wheel drive thing, which was his car when he sadly passed away.
Spoiler alert! For those that can't wait, here it is:

It was superb at it's peak around the mid eighties but outstayed its welcome eventually. Loved old Lennard Pearce as Grandad. He was hilarious.
In many ways Porridge edged it for me as much as I loved Fools, possibly due to a shorter series run.
Lets not mention that Going Straight spin off !

Porridge is far better IMO, like you i liked F&H but i love Ronnie Barker in porridge. Got to admit to enjoying open all hours as well, the interplay between Barker and jason in that is brilliant.
I do rate Porridge, but OFAH is far better.  As well as the story lines (which were good - particularly in the context of the 30 min episodes) the peripheral characters are stronger.

The 90s episodes were slightly weaker and they should have stopped at the millionaire stage. Brilliant tho Uncle Albert was, I thought Grandad was funnier. Top 5 episodes (not counting the Christmas specials)

Saturday the 14th
A Touch of Glass
Who's a Pretty Boy Then
Hole in One
Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
I have to admit that OFAH never really did that much for me. I like the odd episode and see why it's so popular but mostly it leaves me cold. It wouldn't make my top ten sitcoms.

Watching it back now - it has of course dated and so difficult to rank when you consider all the comedy genres since.  But watching it as a kid in the 80s, I rated it right up there with Blackadder
