  50 year anniversary

Of our last major trophy is on the horizon.....

The other three 'big' West Midlands clubs have all won a major trophy in that time.

And with Pulis at the helm, we are unlikely to break the barren run.

Leicester 0 Albion 5

Possibly the finest away performance from an Albion team I can remember - shame I can't find any footage as I'm sure the cameras were there that day.

40 years ago - and I doubt we'll ever see the like again.

  Us 78-81 v Villa 80-82
Posted by: spandaubaggie - 10-15-2017, 02:22 PM - Forum: WBAunofficial - Replies (58)

Reading the thread below re delusional Villa makes me all the happier for their current woes, where they are in the division below us for the first time in all the 40 plus years I've followed Albion.
The mentions of 82 really rankle.
I think in that golden era of 78-82 where we and Villa put W Mids football on the map, they had all the good fortune.
In 78/79 we were unfortunately behind Liverpool at their very best. Meanwhile Villa won the league in 81 with only a point more than our 79 total. Ipswich threw it away in the run in.
Equally 82 they again had incredible good fortune. Bayern were superior but the Gods smiled on Villa.
As hypothetical pointlessness goes I would argue vehemently that our 79 team would have won silverware with half the luck Villa had. In fact I think we were better than them.
That's why I really see them as the enemy and long may they rot.

Interesting to see how many goals or chances City scored/had where Fletcher lost possession, was chasing shadows or just looking out of position.......Barry is a definite improvement..
