Time clubs snubbed the Europa League
Posted by: spandaubaggie - 03-12-2017, 07:22 PM - Forum: WBAunofficial - Replies (23)

In my childhood I recall the excitement of our European adventures. Of course 78/79 was the only run worth recollecting. The other two campaigns of that era were poor.
Now though I really can't get worked up over the rubbish that is the Europa league.
The only way it'd be worthwhile is a straight knockout like it used to be. Most of the clubs taking part just don't have the resources for the number of games. Also without the knockout drama on the night it's crap.
I recall Bolton getting some poor attendances in particular as the public saw through the hype.
Really would love some clubs to make a stand and refuse to take part.
Europe is great but it has to be done in a way that doesn't screw up the Albion's, Stokes and Southampton's as well as the Malaga's and Las Palma's of the continent.

I think we should to give them reassurance that we will give them opportunities and more importantly the yoof coming through so they don't go running to Chelsea or Liverpool shouldn't they come knocking.

  Yesterday...did we throw the game?

There is absolutely no appetite from anyone at the club to get to Europe. Not from the board, manager and players. How much of yesterday's selection and non performance was dictated by this?

I totally understand the position if honest. I think it would be great to have an away jolly but it would go against the plans the club and manager of slow growth and small steps forward.

Sly old Tony will probably be the toast of the boardroom last night.
