Aftershave |

Finding myself in Palma Majorca airport with three hours to spare due to a delayed flight, I decided that now was the time to finally buy some new aftershave. My supply of Old Spice and Aramis from the 1970s had run out a couple of decades ago, and the £15 bottle of Kouros purchased from Home Bargains in the Ryemarket Stourbridge (the most expensive thing in the shop) is on its last dregs.
My opinion of aftershave and associated accessories has been somewhat ruined by the lad’s return from three years at university. He arrived with the full range of Lynx accessories and a truly horrendous girlfriend.
After a week ensconced in his room with his aftershave and the witch, the dog ventured in to say hello, and returned carrying a whiff of Lynx around the house, and with its sense of smell decimated. Appalled by this assault on her senses, the dog headed for the garden to roll in some fox shit on the lawn.
So I ventured out into the duty-free shop at Palma airport thinking I might find a bottle of Hai Karate for a fiver, or something similar.
WTF?
The cheapest stuff I could find was something called D Wood Square or something like that for about 90 euros. Some geezer named Tom Ford sells a bottle the size of an eye-wash cup for over 300 euros. Jimmy Shoe who I thought made shoes sells a bottle the size of shot glass for 250 euros. Either my sense of smell is going, or they are peddling tainted water because none of them smelt of anything.
Thirty minutes later I had a fist full of litmus test papers smelling of nothing, and retired defeated, to Burger King to waste a couple of hours.
I’ll call into Home Bargains next week to see what they’ve got. I’ll leave it to Proth to tell me what the millionaire about town is wearing these days.
PS The girlfriend has gone.
