2021 Holidays - Fulham Fallout - 05-13-2021

With the traffic light system announced and the requirements for each stated, what are your plans for holidays during 2021?

I’m going to hang fire and wait until nearer the time (start of September) and see what the situation is then as I’d like to go to a Greek Island again, but they are currently on the amber list. As the requirements and the list of countries on each category will without doubt change before September, it’s just not worth booking anything yet (IMO).

We had Portugal booked but decided to rebook for next year when there were rumours of mandatory expensive tests (x8 for a family of four) and potential quarantine decided whilst you're still on holiday. That was whilst Europe was a bit fugged, moreso than it is now any road. We also didn't know what the restrictions were likely to be in the hotel - masks/dinner booking/kids club etc.

Lumped for a week on the harbour in Milford Haven in the end. Moved next year's holiday to Tunisia when Tui wanted an extra £1200 for the same holiday a year on. What was a moderately priced week in Portugal two summers ago was turning out into 'a grand short of two weeks in Disney'. Fuckers.

Booked for the rugby in Scotland next month.

Cornwall next month too.

August for the Festival in Edinburgh.

Portmeirion for a week in November.

Monitoring the situation in SE Asia for December.

We have booked a cruise along the Norwegian coast in December, to see the Northern Lights, and go right up to the Russian border. The Norwegian shipping company, Hurtigruten, operates ships on this route every day to keep isolated towns going, ie. the postman will be on board. They don`t expect tips for the crew, as they pay decent wages. They have also said if we have to postpone due to Covid, they will re-book us at no extra charge.

Too much hassle booking a foreign holiday and it then being cancelled. A week on the south coast near Lymington booked for first week of August.

Taking the kids to Centreparcs on Monday.

Might try and get away later in the year but no firm plans as yet.

Was due to go to Thailand for my 50th last December which was then moved back a year. Additionally the Summer of 2020 we had inter rail tickets booked with the plan to head to San Sebastian and Bilbao via Bordeaux and Toulouse. This summer we didn't want to risk going abroad so staying in the UK and have week booked in Brixham.

Love Brixham, and had hoped to move there, or somewhere in Devon. Houses sold before we can buy them. Looking in Wales now.

Awaiting a sensible return to France, 90 day limits now are restrictive along with the testing and quarantines atm.
One positive is my dog has a French passport. She can come and go no time limits or tests for covid - amazing.
Her previous owner is shown as the Mayor of Poitiers so she gets VIP treatment by French vets and border control Big Grin

Our usual cottage in Rothiemurchus Forest is changing hands and unavailable for this year; hopefully it will resurface as a holiday let during 2022. So it's a year to try a few new spots, whether we like it or not, the first of which will be Drumnadrochit near the north western end of Loch Ness and very handy for Glen Affric. Then on to a couple of spots a bit nearer to our regular haunts but also a little closer to the Moray coast.

If our experience is any guide, availability in 2021 will be tight and prices inflated; fair enough - the tourist sector has had a bashing these last 15 months. Hopefully those exploring the highlands for the first time will enjoy it as a one-off but not necessarily as a place to return to year on year.

And mid-Wales for a few days at the back end of May, then work out if we're sufficiently solvent for something in the autumn.
