We need depth and players who can make an impact, change a game. It’s a long hard season and one lesson we learnt last year was when Philips was unavailable and Barnes returned to Leicester we didn’t have the quality to step up
Honestly think Gayle sees this as his spiritual home, if it happens then great but if not then we move on and bring in a quality striker or two tomorrow

Gayle still lives in Sutton. I saw him walking his dog in Streetly last week. I believe he lives in the same house Danielle Lloyd and O’Hara shared.

We can afford Gayle, but don’t want to commit all our resources into a deminishing asset.
If Newcastle we’re open to a loan deal (to pern if we go up) he’d be here by now... but they’re not, and Gayle at 29 with 2 years left on his contract knows now is his last chance to get a contract on decent money so obviously wants a perm 3-4yr deal somewhere, as at 30 with 12 months left next summer he’s onto a loser.
I still think we’ll end up with a loan deal later today, but it only suits us, not him and Newcastle so seems v.unlikely.
If we spunk £10m+ on a player, they’ll be U23...
