What would your solution to the situation be? To leave people to get on with things on their own? Not lock the country down? Just give everyone a £1000 etc and say get in with it? When the financial sector was bailed out by Gordon Brown it represented the greatest transfer of wealth in history from the youngest and poorest to the oldest and richest. This is the reckoning - it can't happen again. If we're going to socialise Covid 19, the way to get the economy motoring is helicopter money now, debt forgiveness, smashing the banking sector into much smaller pieces, social insurance for healthcare, liberalisation of retail and the hospitaility sector and major fiscal reform. Some of your points look good, debt forgiveness being the main one - that would need to be supported by some way of restricting the 'forgiven' so they don't just run up the same debts, which would mean some form of policing by the state, that doesn't sound like your ideal world. Are you saying a person forgoing a 3rd luxury holiday of the year is the price they paid?
