The best part of the Reformation was when Henry VIII had rowed a barge up and down the Thames on which he’d painted the message that leaving the Roman Catholic Church would save England £9,746 7s 6d a week, which would instead be spent on plague medicine.

It’s a shame the ‘quiet man of politics’ can’t keep his nonsensical opinions to himself.

Looking forward to the persecution and murder of any remainers in the same way that the Catholics were at that point then. Looks like I will have to change my view and pray at the alter of leave or be publicly crushed under heavy stones, hung or drawn and quartered for non-believers like Dekka.

Translation all the sane, reasonable, intelligent people are working together to stop the country self harming for the good of the people even if they are too dim to realise it themselves.

Saying that how shit are Labour under Corbyn?!? Finishing fourth in a by-election against the worst government for decades with social problems and Brexit as huge problems for the current government. Absolute muppets!

No they didn't. They voted to leave the EU. That is all. There was no details as to what the exit would entail. Would it be a no deal? A Canada Plus? A Norway option? Retain freedom of movement and trade? None of these were specified in the 'leave' campaign. It was a straight 'yes or no'.

The referendum wasn't legally binding so a Yes or a No effectively meant nothing in statute. In other words, a Yes was advisory on the basis of turning that Yes into a legal binding deal with the EU that was satisfactory for all sides.

So I'd be interested to hear someone make a compelling argument for why an advisory Yes should still be a legally binding Yes with a deal that would be catastrophic for the country. Are we really saying that the 51.8% who voted to leave would all have done so knowing that 3 years later the country would be in turmoil, we'd have a power-crazed self absorbed loon in control, that nothing on these shores would have been improved by Parliament in 3 years because it was all Brexit, we'd have spent 8bn doing precisely nothing and that any deal we could get would have been of negative impact to the country.

Brexiteers don't want another referendum because when you have to vote on some facts - like a spelled out clear deal that can be analysed - perhaps a few people may decide it's better stay - or, as is probably more likely, some of the 27.8% of those who couldn't be bothered to vote might suddenly realise they need to get off their asses and save the country...

Sarcasm doesn’t translate well on here clearly.

Just as an observation though, the leading protagonists in the Leave campaign all had their own idea of what leave meant. Barely anyone said a No Deal in WTO rules Brexit was their choice. Anyone who says they knew exactly what they were voting for when they put an x by leave is lying.

Max Hastings has a few blots on the copy book too...

In the end if anyone wants a reason to blame remainers for the mess we're in they should look directly at the Tory party who have now voted in a self publicising moron after calling a referendum nobody wanted in the first place, calling an election and losing a majority, revoking article 50 when there was no need, negotiated a withdrawal agreement that was the worst of all worlds, failed to pass a withdrawal agreement down to their own in party infighting and then ousted the absolutely awful May for an even worse candidate now.

And people start crying democracy democracy will die if we have another referendum when for the past 3 years the conservatives have run a totalitarian state just so their own party didn't implode. And don't get me started on all the things we could have done in the last 3 years if we hadn't been bothering with Brexit....

Democracy will die. It would be very undemocratic to have another referendum and basically say to 17 million people your first ment nothing so we'll try again.

People are failing to remember the question in short terms.

Remain in the European Union?
Leave the European Union?

In 1975, we wanted to join "the common market" which Labour put us into, for benefits of industry and business.

The EU has evolved in such that they are telling everyone what to do aside from business and industry and charging well managed developed countries a fortune to be part of the gang.

We didn't vote for that back 1975, we voted for a market fair tariff and free trade on business doing business with the EC.

The EU has become a beast out of control, controlling countries to self satisfy it's own existence, creating law upon law upon law upon law, creating widespread monetary mismanagement, debunking entire countries because of its rules, and in finality,  getting annoyed that's its self sufficient, wealthier, more intelligent,  more independent,  more diverse, little brother Britain would like to leave now because your spending all his pocket money and not showing where it's gone.

I hope the remainers have an answer.

Well put mon, remainers keep saying people didn't know what they were voting for so we need another vote,so  on that basis we need to re run the 1975 referendom as  no one in 1975 knew what they were ultimately voting for or how things would work out no one voted for political union which is the EU's ultimate goal.,

So a democratic confirmatory vote to say yes to the final outcome of Brexit negotiations is anti-democratic but a government willing / hell bent it seems to dissolve government to push a no deal Brexit through against the wishes of its democratically elected parliament (only sovereign when it suits Brexiteers it seems) to get its own way is? Do you not see how fucking stupid that reads / scans?

We aren’t self sufficient ffs! We don’t produce enough food to support ourselves, we are stockpiling pharmaceuticals, we don’t produce enough oil / gas to power ourselves etc Energy Food

Are we more intelligent. I think Belgium and the Netherlands are ahead of us according to Forbes and Germany and France are similar.

Diverse? So France, Belgium, Holland, Germany etc don’t have diverse populations?

Are we welthier than Germany, France etc? https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.usato...p/38429481

You’re talking absolute nonsense. Your post reads like a Sun Editorial.

We were already in the EEC in 1975, Ted Heath and the Tories put us there in 1973. The 1975 referendum was a vote on continued membership, not to join.
Seems to be a common misunderstanding about the 1975 referendum.
