He was the only available vehicle for getting Brexit done without a 2nd referendum. What else would you have proposed I did?
Fixed that for you, but lets not have this descend into another Brexit debate please.
I'd say that we have to look at the release of restrictions in relation to what has achieved so far. We have reduced the risk of death greatly by the vaccination programme, that has been shown in comparison with similar cases / hospitalisations at other points in the pandemic, this would lead us to reducing restrictions greatly. The 2nd issue is that we have also reduced the amount in hospital with serious illness in comparison to case numbers at other points, however we haven't removed that completely yet and with numbers in hospital rising then it seems foolish to remove all restrictions at this point.
It would be slightly better if the government would support businesses that want to continue to have some restrictions in place through the law, for example, if you want to continue to run a bar with only table service and masks to be worn when moving around, it would be helpful to that business to know they have the backing of the law if some gobshite decides he doesn't want to comply with those rules. At the moment the reliance has been placed on staff of the premises to deal with as the police would have no powers.
