There really are a number of positive news stories like that coming out Dekka; the number of deaths being so low and the number of hospitalisations compared to infections being right down as well. But we can't get carried away with them because it is only half a job done and there are some more miles to get through on this road. We have shown that vaccinations are the key to all this so we really have to push on that front otherwise we won't get to the finish line. I would also be looking at getting adolescents vaccinated as well, we can use data from around the globe to see any side effects now.
13% of the adult population unvaccinated is 7M people, we only need 30k (less than half a %) of them to be putting the hospitals in a situation where we are cancelling operations, consultations and procedures. Lets not ease up now until we can get that vaccinated number as high as possible, and lets not ease up when the numbers are rising - that bit is madness, even if we keep the basics of social distancing in some premises (shops for example), and mask wearing on public transport and in shops, every little bit matters. It wasn't long ago we were shouting to lock the borders and that was ignored; if that had happened we wouldn't have been where we are now, lets not make the same mistake twice.
This is far from over - vaccinations are the key and they are looking good but not enough yet.
