That's not me suggesting there isn't a problem, there clearly is. But, given that there's now a lot of peer reviewed data now out saying omicron is 50 to 70% less severe and the MV data remains flat to support this, its about time focus was put on getting our NHS in a much better state of health than it is.
Unfortunately, the NHS had been run down for the last 9/10 years prior to Covid and now Covid waves and Brexit has hammered it for the last two so it really will take monumental efforts and cash to bring back to where it was around 2009 (along with the ever problematical social welfare system).
Much of the impact of the original wave could have been mitigated if we had funded robust pandemic procedures and processes in place but we never seem to play 'long term' politics in this country.
Add in a lack of any leadership and clarity throughout these wretched few years and you get the poor outcomes we have all experienced physically and, never underestimate, mentally.
