RAF flypast
The 'lanc' was more famous for being a being a night time heavy bombing plane. It was the plane of choice for the 617 squadron. 'The Dam Busters'used for the flooding of the Ruhr Valley.
The task actually took 5 months, the intended strategic task was to eliminate coke, steel and oil refineries. The pollution and smoke from industry within the area restricted standard bombing operations due to the constant viewing restrictions for the 'Bomb Aimer'.
Operating out of Woodhall, of course this was a while later then the actual BoB as my learned friend pointed out earlier.

It was the heavy bomber of choice period.  Harris wanted the Halifaxes phased out as inferior to the Lancaster (the Halifax couldn't carry the 4,000lb cookie) and the Stirling was a flop.
