And from an article I read recently totally unaware of his part in our greatest sporting triumph.

Anything to do with those old caseballs I wonder?

I'm not a great believer in the honours system, but surely the whole of that '66 World Cup winning side should have been knighted rather than just a select few.

Peters was the man who was a minute away from being our match-winner. He was noted as much for his blindside runs as for what he did on the ball. Another hero gone.

RIP Martin.

Great player in his day - first 200K player IIRC = His nickname is very appropriate today.
Thanks for the memories RIP Sir.

It can't be a coincidence that many of that team are. I've a mate whose Dad played up to International level, (Wales). He says the problem is absolutely rife in ex players of that vintage.

Bloody hell I am old enough to remember watching the 66 final and he was always the graceful epitome of a footballer who knew how to be in the right place at the right time.

RIP Martin.

A very sad loss, but what memories he's left us with.

Dementia is awful. You only know how bad it is when you have to deal with it.

RIP Martin.

I remember watching him a couple of times at The Hawthorns for Norwich when I was kid.

I didn't realise then what a privilege it was to watch a guy who scored and played in a World Cup final for England at my ground.

RIP Martin.
