I'm Surprised

How many people are surprised that Dawson, not Nyom right back.

From what I remember of last season, and to some extent it is a distant memory, Dawson was his first choice right back, offering defensive solidity, reasonable going forward, but most importantly a good source of goals from set pieces.

Given how many goals we score from set pieces, Pulis is going to want as many central defenders who can score in the team as possible, even if this comes at the expense of playing a recognised/specialist full back.

Dawson at right back ticks so may boxes for Pulis.

Dawson is as good a right back as Nyom. This "specialised full back" thing that people love to harp on about is nonsense. However Nyom is clearly out of practise playing at left back. Playing Dawson in his best position at right back has been a good decision more often than its been a bad one, that's not the problem.

I don't understand why we'd put Nyom at left back after our run. It clearly should've been Brunt, with Gibbs as a reasonable alternative....... but not Nyom

Actually I agree with all that.

Most people's preferred team had Nyom at right back, I didn't think that was likely or necessarily preferable.

IMHO FWIW, I thought Nyom was useless at both ends and sides of the pitch today.

Absolutely

Pulis also needs to get the balance right in midfield - really need to start a linkman rather than 3 defensive players.  There just aren't enough outball options

If he was to omit anyone - suspect it should be Livermore

I said just that 15 minutes before kick off Manc.

Really shite team selection today given the tools available and playing a side without a goal so far.

Extremely negative selection got exactly what it deserved.

All 3 goals attributable to him.

He had a 'mare today. Madness to start him at LB when we have 2 players better in that position available.

Quite honestly one of the most ridiculous selections I've seen an Albion manager make - and I said this as soon as I saw the team.
Hopefully, Nyom, who's just about an OK right back, will never play for the club at left back ever again, which would be one small crumb of comfort to gain from that shambles today.

Nyom was fine at left back last season and had been one of our best performers this season before today.

If it was about set pieces Brunt would have started.
